Simón Jaramillo Vallejo

About me

Simón Jaramillo Vallejo is an audiovisual artist and DJ meloman Selector from Bogotá, Colombia, currently based in Leipzig and Berlin. Simón studied art at Universidad de Los Andes in Bogotá from 2014 to 2016, though they did not complete the program. Since 2016, Simón has lived in Germany, moving between Wuppertal, Berlin, and Leipzig, where they completed a social volunteer service and contributed to the founding of various intercultural collectives focused on music. In 2020, Simón began studying Media Art at the Academy of Fine Arts Leipzig (HGB). Since 2022, they have studied under Clemens von Wedemeyer and Mareike Bernien in the Expanded Cinema class.

By exploring new techniques and connecting analog and digital worlds, Simón aims to create translations and reinterpretations of autobiographical fragments that address power structures, migration, and extractivism. They integrate music and dance into their artistic practice, using these elements as tools of resistance and decolonization. Simón’s work seeks to create, reclaim, and open spaces for Global South artists, fostering dialogue, discussion, and connections with participants in these encounters. Always in search of new narrative forms, Simón strives to create unique, immersive experiences through interaction between viewers and the artwork.
